Dr Van Der Walt

Dr Van Der Walt graduated at the University of Witwatersrand in 1983,. Following a year of practicing dentistry in the UK, he returned to South Africa and relocated to Cape Town where he joined Dr Pat Josephon

He enjoys practising the full spectrum of treatment modalities that dentistry offers, with special interest in endodontics, cosmetic restorations and implants. He successfully completed a post graduate diploma in dental implantology at UWC in 2007, and served on the committee of the Cape Society for Dental Implantology for three years. He is a member of SAAAD [South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry], SADA [South African Dental Association] and registered with HPCSA [Health Practitioners Council of South Africa]

Dr Van Der Walt takes a keen interest in all forms of sport, cycling and running to stay fit and healthy. He is married to Marjoleine a graphic designer. They have two children, a son Daniel and daughter Alex.

Dr Van Rooyen

Dr Pieter van Rooyen graduated from the University of Pretoria with his BChD (Baccalaureus Chirurgiae Dental) degree in 1990 and completed the post graduate PPD Implantology course at Stellenbosch University near Cape Town during 2003. He has been in private practice since 1990 and has gained world-class experience in Maxillo Facial and Oral surgery as an assistant to Professor G. Kariem for 13 years. He was afforded the opportunity in 2002 to join Patheodent where is has remained until now. He has also completed several in-depth practical courses in implantology including the advanced course in Implantology with The Implant and Aesthetic Academyand his focus has always been on refining the aesthetic and functional component in dentistry. He is currently enrolled in a course in advanced implantology underwritten by the University Of Frankfurt, Germany. He belongs to the CSDI (Cape Society of Dental Implantologists), which is affiliated to the South African Society of Dental Implantologists, the International Association of Computerised Dentistry, The South African Branch of the International Association of Computerised Dentistry (SAACD). He is also a member of the South African Association of Aesthetic Dentistry. He is registered with the HPCSA (The Health Professional Council of South Africa), and is a member of SADA (South African Dental Association).

He has lectured occasionally at the Dental Faculty of the University of Stellenbosch and was recently invited to lecture at the annual congress of the Namibian Dental Association Windhoek, Namibia.

Dr van Rooyen is married to Dr Liezel Schmidt, a specialist anaesthetist, who also is in private practice in Cape Town. The have two sons and live in the beautiful village of Bloubergstrand. He is an avid mountain bike enthusiast, also enjoys windsurfing and the occasional surfing session with his sons at their local spot near their home.

Dr Ellis

Dr Andrew Ellis graduated from The University Of Stellenbosch with his BChD Degree in 1998 receiving The Colgate Prize for Maxillo-Facial Surgery. He then moved to London,UK where he started Fulham Dental Care, a successful private practice in the Chelsea area encompassing all aspects of general dentistry with a special focus on cosmetic dentistry, implantology as well as orthodontic treatment. While living in the UK, Dr Ellis was able to attend several international post-graduate courses and congresses thus gaining considerable knowledge and experience in all fields of clinical dentistry.

After eight years in London the pull towards Cape Town became too great and so he returned, joining Patheodent in 2007, becoming a partner in 2009.Since returning he has attended the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Implantology Post Graduate Hands-On Courses presented by The Implant And Aesthetic Academy refining his clinical skills in this area. Dr Ellis has a special interest in aesthetic dentistry; with more than ten years of experience in CAD-CAM computerized dentistry using the CEREC unit to create both functional and aesthetic smiles. He remains on the cutting edge of all the latest technological advancements in dentistry by attending as many post graduate courses as possible. He has recently been elected as vice-president of the Western Cape Executive Committee of the South African Association of Osseointegration (SAAO) as well as to the Executive Committee of the South African Academy for Aesthetic Dentisty (SAAAD). He is a member of IAA(Implant and Aesthetic Academy), South African Academy of Computerised Dentistry (SAACD), SAAO (South African Academy of Osseointergration), SADA (South African Dental Association) and is registered with the HPCSA( Health Professions Council of South Africa). Dr Ellis is married to Yvonne and have children Simon and Adrienne. He enjoys trail running, surf-skiing and mountain biking.

Dr Josephson

Dr Josephson obtained his BDS dental degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. He then practised in the UK for one year before returning to South Africa to set up a general practice in Sea Point, Cape Town. After further studies in Periodontology and Oral Medicine he decided to rejoin the ranks of general dentistry which allowed him to focus on comprehensive treatment including all facets of restorative, endodontic, surgical and implant dentistry. Further studies have rewarded him with his H Dip Dent Wits, Msc Tand Wet Stell, MBA UCT and in addition to this he has attended numerous post graduate courses in SA, USA, Norway and Germany.

His teaching experience includes senior lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch and Western Cape Dental Schools in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine. He has also lectured in various parts of Southern Africa including Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Harare, Windhoek and Oranjemund. He participated as a lecturer and demonstrator in numerous courses on implantology, and has had fourteen papers published in various dental journals. The Dental Association of South Africa has been a keen interest culminating in being elected as vice president of the South Africa Society of Periodontology and president of the Western Cape branch of the South African Society of Periodontology. He is registered with the HPCSA.

Dr Josephson is by nature an achiever and so will strive to keep up with new innovations buoyed up by his youthful partners . He is married to Uschi, the uncomplaining love of his life, and has three children. Mark an Anesthetist in Perth, Kim a Physiotherapist in San Diego and Jackie a Oral Hygienist at Patheodent. He enjoys squash, golf and canoeing as well as gardening at his retreat on the Berg River in Veldrift . His motto is Dom Spira Spero.
